BEST AFRICAN ARTIST (SAMA 2018) – NEW CD WITH UNIVERSAL 2019

Simphiwe Dana recently won the SAMA Award for Best African Artist with her latest album “The Simphiwe Dana Symphony experience”. This year the Cape Town Jazz Festival featured the her with this special project that is slated as Africa’s biggest gathering. Ms Dana is the first artist of her generation to be tasked with a project of such magnitude by the Cape Jazz Festival.2018 marks the hundred years of Nelson Mandela who is touted as the face of the anti-apartheid struggle in South Africa. To celebrate his centenary year Ms Dana brought an all-woman big band to the festival. On November 25th Simphiwe Dana will perform at Moncalieri Jazz Festival: “Madiba – For one hundred years since the birth of Nelson Mandela”. Performed by Simphiwe Dana (Vocal), Fabrizio Bosso (Trumpet), Rosario Giuliani (Sax), Orchestra Sinfonica Nazionale Della RAI.

Simphiwe Dana is one of South Africa’s most soulful singers, renowned around the world and adored for her impressive vocal prowess. She is an artist who employs a true cultural and African identity in her art form. Established in 2004 with the release of her debut album Zandisile, Simphiwe Dana has firmly planted her place in the heart of South Africa’s entertainment industry. To date, the Simphiwe Dana brand is likened to the late legendary artists such as Miriam Makeba and Busi Mhlongo. Her albums have deservedly scooped–‐up numerous awards and recognitions here at home and abroad. Having toured Europe at large with her previous two albums, her Kulture Noir has claimed the No. 1 spot on the German World Music Charts and the number 3 spot on the European Music Charts. In May 2011, Simphiwe Dana released her first-ever LIVE DVD recording, the live performance was recorded from the Lyric Theatre in Johannesburg where she hosted “An Evening with Simphiwe Dana,” featuring a full band and orchestra: “iNkwekwezi”: 174.099 views. Her music is now part of the curriculum at prestigious universities such as Oxford University in England and other academic institutions.
